Ananda College defeat Richmond College to lift the third Murali Harmony Cup.

Ananda College crushed Richmond College by five wickets in a one-sided low-scoring final to become the third Murali Harmony Cup champions on Sunday.

Ananda College knocked out defending champions St. Peter’s College in the semi-finals, ending their three-year winning run, before dominating their Galle opponents in Jaffna.

Richmond College were bowled out for just 68 in 18.5 overs with Kaveeshka Anjula, the man of the match in the semi-finals, taking 3 for 13 with the new ball.

All-rounder Sahan Arachchige also chipped in with great figures, taking 4 for 15 from his four overs.

In reply Ananda College had a nervous start losing two wickets in the first over, but middle order batsman Asel Sigera steadied the innings with 39 from 51 runs.

eDSC_2471In the ladies competition FOG Seenigama won their first Murali Harmony Cup, defeating Badulla Ladies in comprehensive and colourful style by 48 runs.

FOG Seenigama scored 93 for 4 in their 15 overs with Dharshani Mendis top-scoring with 26 from 24 balls. Badulla Ladies were never in the hunt as wickets fell at regular intervals.

eDSC_2479The Murali Harmony Cup is a reconciliation cricket tournament that promotes unity, goodwill, teamwork, the spirit of fair play and service to disadvantaged rural communities in post-war Sri Lanka.

The tournament has been jointly organised by former Sri Lanka cricketer Muttiah Muralidharan’s charity the Foundation of Goodness, travel company Red Dot Tours and the Sri Lanka Army.

About the Murali Harmony Cup

The 2014 Murali Harmony Cup is being played at five grounds across Northern Sri Lanka in the towns of Jaffna, Oddusuddan, Mankulam and Kilinochchi from 29 October to 2 November.  It is a reconciliation and community-building T20 cricket tournament featuring U19 schoolboys and U23 women cricketers designed to promote unity, goodwill, teamwork, the spirit of fair play and service to disadvantaged rural communities.  16 boys’ teams and eight ladies’ teams from across Sri Lanka are playing two matches every day at each ground, with the finals on 5 November at St. Patrick’s College Jaffna.
