Pope Meets President and First Lady

 Pope Francis had a  private audience with President Rajapaksa to discuss the pontiff’s upcoming visit to Sri Lanka. “Both President Rajapaksa and Pope Francis expressed their hope that the pontiff’s visit to Sri Lanka may be welcomed as a sign of his closeness to the Sri Lankan population and may also encourage those within the country who work for the common good, reconciliation, justice and peace,” the statement added.
President Rajapaksa Opens New Sports Complex in Anuradhapura

The sports complex in Anuradhapura is one of the projects implemented by the Sports Ministry to equip provincial sports grounds with better infrastructure and modern facilities. With this mega project, the rural athletes in every province will be able to use modern facilities which will help them reach higher standards, in line with the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision. The complex consists of an indoor stadium which is capable of facilitating 25 sports, a swimming pool, a football, rugby and a cricket ground and an athletics ground with nine tracks.

For the first time a home ported cruise line in Sri Lanka will be launched by Royal Asian Cruise (RAC). The company will initially invest US $ 33 million for this project. The voyages are expected to begin operations in late 2015.

The initial vessel, ‘The Asia Pride’ that is to set sail in 2015, will be capable of carrying 800 passengers on a weekly basis.

 Chairman and Managing Director of RAC, Mano Sinnarajah said that the project will be a five year venture which will provide nearly 400 employments at the initial stage._____________________

Ambassador Raja Edirisuriya, Marco Ferraz,  President of BRAZTOA, Lucila Nedelciu, Director of Raidho Tour Operator and Sajith Wijenayake, General Manager of Aitken Spence Travels in Colombo, at the 42nd ABAV International Tourism EXPO to promote tourism in Latin America. Ambassador Edirisuriya had the opportunity to give a presentation on the tourism industry in Sri Lanka.  



With the development of the tourism and hospitality sector in Sri Lanka, British companies are willing to invest in the sector. British High Commissioner John Rankin said. British tourists are interested in visiting Sri Lanka and British companies are interested in investing in tourism and hospitality sectors, Rankin said at the Institute of Hospitality of Sri Lanka Chapter Chairman’s 16th Black Tie Dinner held at the Hotel Kingsbury.

Tina Faulk’s “The Island of Singing Fish”

 High Commissioner to Australia Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe  accepted a copy of Tina Faulk’s book ‘The Island of Singing Fish’. Tina was born in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) attended Ladies College Colombo in primary school – her parents emigrated to Australia in the late Fifties – she worked as a journalist in southeast Asia and Hong Kong  – ‘The Island of Singing Fish’ is her first non-fiction piece of writing -it was launched at the Ceylon Society in Melbourne Australia on 31 August this year! Dilhani Perera, on the left, with a few colleagues, appearing on large vibrant buses currently in route in the San Fernando Valley. The image was from a photo shoot for Pierce College, where she landed the cover of the Fall 2009 catalogue! She was  “Captain” of the Pierce College Girls Soccer Team. The catalogue was delivered to one million residences in the San Fernando Valley and the same image was displayed on 15 bus-stops too! This bus was last spotted on Ventura Boulevard in Encino. Dilhani is now an alumni of Cal State University of Northridge, with her degree in Apparel Merchandising & Business Marketing.
