Chandrani Puts Sri Lanka on the Map With Her Books Published in the United States
World Peace Day was Celebrated on September 21st.
As the Beatles put it so eloquently a generation ago in their iconic song “Give Peace a Chance,” the Lyrics written by John Lennon during the height of the Vietnam war still have great meaning today. Peace does not simply come by ending a war or by one party winning an election. Keeping a hard-won peace needs to be sustained by nurturing a “culture of peace.” Children are the grassroots level with which to begin the process. Stories appeal to the mind and imagination of children more than any other piece of literature. Give children a chance to work for peace, reading stories from Sri Lanka and other Asian cultures. Like the award winning author J.K.Rawlings whose initial impulse was reading British Folktales, let our children enhance their creativities in our continued quest for peace keeping, by reading stories and discussing them with friends; for reading matter.
